Developing a Thesis Statement /Setting a Purpose for Your Writing

• When you write, your mission is to create a focused, clear message, brimming with quality ideas.
• In information/ expository writing, this focused message can often be captured in a nutshell in your thesis statement.
• A thesis statement:

1. tells your reader exactly what you are writing about
2. keeps you, the writer, pointed in the right direction

This presentation is a guide on writing effective and good thesis statement, and this presentation can be used with middle school students, however, it is up to the teacher who might see that this is suitable for high school students, or for the support and remedial classes for the students who struggle with the writing assignments.
