Description

I use these documents to teach my 6th graders how to determine theme (something that I always struggled with when I was younger.) Determining theme from scratch Is more difficult than being able to choose it from 4 multiple choice options on a standardized test. I wanted my students, who are lacking in life experiences, to have a concrete way to figure a theme out. Then, I knew that after they came up with a theme, crafting a written response would be another area of struggle.
The first two pages teach them what theme is and the next two teach them how to determine a theme and write a response. I also included an example of theme response that we developed as a class after they listened to me read aloud The Cloud Spinner. After we wrote the response (they copied it into their interactive journals as I wrote it under the doc camera.) we went back and annotated it (info in red.)

PRINTING: To fit this in their journals, I print this by selecting multiple pages and then choosing 2 pages per sheet (be sure to check that your orientation is correct.) If you wish to print it 8.5 x 11. please make sure to select “fit” instead of “actual size.”

Thanks for purchasing this product. Please go to my blog for more detailed information as to how I taught this concept.
