Description
This simple social narrative uses a story format to explain death to young children, particularly children who may have Autism or other special needs.
I wrote this social story for a kindergartner whose mother passed away unexpectedly in the middle of the school year. My heart is sad for anyone who must explain the death of a special person to a young child, but I hope this social story will give you some of the words you need.
To use:
1.Even though my story was about a mother passing away, I have made the story editable so that you can change the name to fit your needs.
2.I left a blank space above the text so that you can insert pictures of your child’s loved one.
3.I also intentionally left the wording about afterlife vague. You can choose to add this in or leave it out.
4.Read the book with your child as often as he or she would like. For my student, I made one copy to have at school and one copy to have at home.
