Day of the Dead Read and Respond (Digital or Print)
- PDF
- Google Apps™
Description
This resource includes two original reading passages. The first text focuses on the history and traditions of the holiday, Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos), celebrated on November 1st and 2nd. The second passage explains three popular symbols of the holiday.
11/1/23: I just posted an updated version of this resource. Please download the newest version if you already own it. Thank you!
Students respond after reading by:
- Using the information in the passage to answer comprehension questions
- Generating questions/thoughts after reading
- Determining the topic and author's purpose
- Summarizing the text
Read and Respond can be used in three ways:
1. Assign student slides using Google Classroom. Students read the text passages digitally and respond by typing answers on the response slides. You will not need to print any paper with this method. You can grade responses within Google Classroom.
2. Print response pages (in pdf) for each student. Display a reading passage on the projector screen and read the passage together. Students can answer the response pages on paper and turn them in.
3. Print passages and response pages for students from the PDF resource. The pages are provided in color and black and white.
Note: The color slides are for displaying on the screen for the whole class or using in Google Classroom. If you plan to print out the resource for students to write responses (instead of typing), use the pages with the black and white clip art.
