What educators are saying

Thank you for the update to include gender neutral language! This has been great to use with my high schoolers who are just beginning to navigate the dating world.
I love how much this is broken down- it is very helpful for my students in comprehensive units and I am very happy with this purchase.

Description

Students with social language difficulties are more at risk for being in abusive or unhealthy dating relationships. They also may not understand the process of dating, which can make this social skill challenging for them to master. With this teaching guide, you will have everything you need to teach the foundational steps of this complex topic using a strategic approach.

This Resource Includes:

  • Dating Vocabulary Worksheet: You can use this worksheet to review or pre-teach common dating vocabulary.
  • Why We Date: Explain to your students the purpose of dating and introduce the topic of dating.
  • How Dating Works: Use this page to explain how dating works and pre-teach each dating step.
  • Step 1- You Like Someone: Use this page to help your students learn to identify how it feels when they "like" someone and how to know if the other person "likes them back".
  • Step 1 Personal Connection: Discussion questions that go with the Step 1 reading passage.
  • Step 2- You "Ask Out" the Person: This reading passage explains how to ask out someone, and what to do if the person says no.
  • Step 2 Personal Connection: Discussion questions that go with the Step 2 reading passage.
  • Step 3: You Become Boyfriend/Girlfriend: This page explains the process of becoming girlfriend/boyfriend and discusses signs of healthy/unhealthy dating relationships.
  • Step 3 Personal Connection: Discussion questions that go with the Step 3 reading passage.
  • Step 4- You Break Up...or Stay Together: This reading passage explains how to know if you should stay in a relationship or break up. It also discusses each step you should take when breaking up with someone. There is an additional page on what to do when someone breaks up with you.
  • Step 4 Break Up Checklist: Discussion questions to ensure your student understands the break up process.
  • Step 5- Be Patient and Keep Trying: A reminder that dating can be a frustrating process, but to stay patient with the process.
  • Scenarios: Help your students identify the best course of action for each pretend dating situation.
  • Act It Out- Students pretend they are in a specific dating situation and must determine what they would say or do.
  • Extra Topics: These are extra topics you can choose to address with your students. (See the preview for more information).
    • They Don't Like You Back
    • Physical Touch
    • Disagreements
