Description
Ten minutes of daily grammar helps kids master mechanics of English language. Students practice weekly parts of speech, capitalization, and punctuation concepts with sentences and follow up with oral review.
Created for fourth and fifth grade students, these activities also work well for English language learners, English as a second or foreign language (ELL, ESL, ELL).
This is the first set in a three-part program.
Open the preview to take a closer look. Sixteen anchor charts let you introduce or review new concepts clearly and concisely. Then kids diagram and correct sentences that incorporate new concepts, as well as those from previous weeks. In the sixth week, students review and take a test.
Each two-page worksheet is included as a printable PDF and interactive Easel Activity.

Suggested Daily Oral Language Schedule:
- Monday - direct instruction of concepts (asking students to take notes or using interactive notebooks is suggested); guided practice with Monday sentences
- Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday - independent completion of sentences (works well as bell work); immediate checking with students offering answers and lots of discussion
- Friday - independent completion of sentences submitted for a grade
The power of the program is in the discussion. Talking about connections, intricacies, and exceptions in grammar maximizes understanding.
This powerful grammar curriculum is the perfect complement to writer’s workshop! It allows you to address standards in just a few short minutes each day. Building students’ skills in brief bursts over an eighteen-week period promotes mastery of identifying parts of speech, capitalizing, and punctuating. Use it for a morning work overlay, at the beginning of your ELA block, or whenever works best for you.
Enjoy Teaching!
