    Description

This exciting grades 9-12 $5 off drama bundle will provide weeks of games and activities. These games and activities will nurture life-long skills while supplying lesson-long fun. ALL GAMES AND ACTIVITIES ARE STUDENT TESTED AND APPROVED!

    Drama Games for High School
45 fun high school drama games will keep even the biggest and most rambunctious classes busy and entertained. The 45 drama games strengthen a variety of essential drama skills, using the voice, body, team collaboration, and even memory. They range from warm-up games for individuals and teams, to scene creation, to games that can be played to hone skills while the class is rehearsing a play. Some games last a few minutes, while others (depending on the size of your class) could take a whole lesson. Some of these games are frequently used ones, but many (hopefully!) will be completely new to you. They all have one thing in common: FUN! The resource ends with a 3 page Readers’ Theater Script. This script is a drama class mystery, set in a high school drama studio, that your students have to collaborate to solve.
    Teacher prep
Most of the games do not require ANY teacher prep. A few of the games use topic cards, giving you, for example, enough dramatic scenes and situations for each group in the class to have a different one. If you copy them onto card stock, or laminate them, they will last until your retirement party.
    This resource contains
21 Warm up games for individuals
10 Warm up games for teams

    7 Scene creation activities
7 Play rehearsal warm up games
    Readers' Theater Mini-Mystery Script

The Raven Readers Theater for Whole Classes or Small Groups

Even the raven would say MORE to this engaging, no-prep Readers' Theater script! Edgar Allan Poe insisted that poetry was best interpreted by being read aloud. Give students the experience of "The Raven" Poe advocated by EITHER reading the poem with your whole class OR assigning it to small groups of 5. Both script types are included in your purchase. Choose the script method that best suits your class!

For extra student engagement, actions and sounds have been added to be performed by everyone in the class at the same time. Even students who don’t typically like poetry will be glued to the script, waiting for their next chance to shout, stamp, smile, stand up, sit down, and even get down on their knees to implore the raven! TWO performances - a dress rehearsal and a final performance - are recommended.

Plot activities and theme and literary device questions (complete with answers) are included.

    Mad Libs Drama Game
This mad libs silly speeches activity is designed for FUN for grades 9-12 in drama classes. It gets students performing in small groups - or to the whole class - and is giggle guaranteed! It's a no-prep, no marking resource and thus is as much fun for the drama teacher as it is for the class. Chuckle as the students give a speech as a drama student visiting their school to give them the low-down on the most disastrous theater field trip EVER!
Have maximum chuckles with your class by NOT showing them the speech template first. If they see the template they will fill in the word grid with predictable words and phrases, rather than wacky ones. Encourage them to make imaginative vocabulary choices, rather than sticking with the ordinary.
    Steps
    1. Students take a quick look at the included definitions of a verb and an adjective.
    2. Students complete the word grids, using the instructions for what type of word to select.
    3. They transfer these words to the speech template.
    4. They practice the delivery of their speech.

    5. They give their speech to small groups, or to the whole class, with great drama.

    6. They receive laughter and applause.
    7. If there is both time and crayons, they color the coloring borders. Why should elementary school kiddos have all the fun?
    8. If wall space permits, put their speeches up for all to admire!

Mad libs rules are explained to the students at the beginning of the activity. Bring community spirit to your classroom with this giggles guaranteed resource!
    Included:

    - a student guidelines page
    - a student grammar review page

    - 2 pages of word grids
    - a speech template page

    Veto! Game (Inspired by Taboo!)

This fun public speaking and analysis team game, inspired by Taboo, can act as both as a warm-up game and as a wonderful time-filler for the end of your high school class. It will enrich designated speech and debate classes, and ELA classes. Thinking and responding rapidly are vital skills for both the classroom and for real-world speaking. Your students will have so much public speaking fun that they won’t be aware they are learning! Knowing how long a debate or set of speeches is going to last can be a dicey business, so having this joyful game that you can bring out in an instant is a reassuring back-up plan. Play on!

    Goal of the game

Students have to convey a word to their team but without using that word, any parts of the word, or any of the 5 vetoed words on the card they have drawn. The team that guesses the most words wins!

Set-up: one pack of cards is required for each game of two teams; both teams play from the same pack. If you laminate the cards you can re-use them for years. If there are 24 students in your class, you could split them into four teams of 6. Therefore, you would need two stacks of Veto cards.

How to play: two teams of approximately equal size face each other. One person from team A picks up a card from the pack. The vetoed word is in italics on the card and the 5 words listed below are ones they cannot use to get their team to guess their word.

Clue-givers can speak for no longer than one minute! Before starting their minute they read out the category of word from the card. There are 4 categories: FOOD, PLACE, ANIMAL, RANDOM. The team only has five guesses, so shouting out massive numbers of words is counter productive. If a correct guess is made within one minute, the team wins a point. The player’s card has to be given to Team B before the round begins because Team B both times team A and listens carefully to check no vetoed words are used. If one was, the player’s turn is over. The game continues alternating between the teams until either the cards or the allotted time for the game - 20 minutes? - run out, points are calculated, and a winning team declared.

    High School Riddles Game
This high school brain teaser riddles activity is a fun team game that uses the rules of charades, but is an often hilarious mixture of acting and drawing. As the riddles' topic is FOOD, this game is perfect for Thanksgiving or Christmas, or for any time that you need a brain break or time filler for your ELA or drama class that will bring out the chuckles! Some students will pick a card that tells them to act out the answer of their riddle to their team. Some will pick a card that tells them to draw the answer. Some lucky students will select a card that allows them to choose whether to act or draw!

    This is how it works

    1. A student goes to the front of the room and takes a card from the top of the face-down stack on a desk. They read out the riddle on their card. They can repeat it ONCE if asked.

    2. They act or draw the answer, depending on what the card instructs them to do. They have one minute.

    3. The other students in their team have 3 tries to guess the answer.

    4. If the team doesn’t get it right, then it goes over to the other team who has one guess. The other team can only take 15 seconds.

    5. If any of the team members get the right answer, the team does a high-5.

    SET UP

Cut up the 30 cards or ask a keen student to do so. If you are able to laminate them, they will last for many Thanksgivings or any-time-fun occasions.

    START UP

Divide the class into two teams facing each other. Shuffle the cards and put them face down on a desk at the front of the room. Select a confident student to go first.

    EXTENSION ACTIVITY

Blank cards are included. Students can play a second game, using cards they have made for the other team.
