What educators are saying

Students had so much fun designing their dream bedrooms! It helped them see/conceptualize each measurement. Great opportunity to integrate financial literacy too.
My students loved this activity and I could easily adjust it for challenging and modifying for student learning --thanks!

Description

In this digital project based learning activity, students create a floor plan, drag and drop furniture, and calculate area and perimeter in order to design their dream bedroom. These interactive Google Slides are perfect for distance learning or as a no prep math practice activity to use in the classroom. This resource includes:

  • step by step directions with illustrations
  • a finished example
  • everything students need to create their dream bedrooms (includes slides to create up to 3 bedrooms but you can always copy and paste for more!)

Your students will love the chance to create and you'll love that they are practicing area and perimeter!

Recognize area as an attribute of plane figures and understand concepts of area measurement.
Measure areas by counting unit squares (square cm, square m, square in, square ft, and improvised units).
Solve real world and mathematical problems involving perimeters of polygons, including finding the perimeter given the side lengths, finding an unknown side length, and exhibiting rectangles with the same perimeter and different areas or with the same area and different perimeters.
Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor.
