What educators are saying

This was the perfect activity to leave for a sub. I left the answers and a few hints and it worked wonderfully.
I used this as an assignment for my health elective class while I was out. The substitute found it simple to help students with, and kids enjoyed the activities involved in the escape room.

Description

Students will use technology and problem-solving skills to complete this digital breakout about cyberbullying. This is part of my bundle of Digital Literacy Breakouts. Purchasing the bundle saves you 25%.

This breakout is completed with Google sites. Please make sure that Google sites is not blocked on your school computers. By using Google sites there is very little preparation that needs to be done to use this with your students.

Updated 4/19/21 - replaced the jigsaw puzzle. Students no longer go to the site jigsawplanet.com. This site is blocked by many school districts. I replaced the puzzle with a Google slides puzzle.

What you need to use this breakout:

Chromebooks, computers, laptops or some type of mobile device. You will need one device for each team. I recommend teams of 2-3 students if possible. The devices must be connected to the internet. A free Google account for you and your students. Scratch paper for students to write down the lock codes while they are working.

What is included:

The breakout is accessed through a Google Site. Students will go to the url for the site to complete the breakout. On the Google Site is the scenario, student directions, links to each of the 3 challenges and a Google form for the students to enter the lock codes. Hints for each of the 3 challenges are located on the Google form where the codes are submitted.

The challenges:

  • Google Forms quiz (reviews the difference between cyberbullying and regular bullying and what you should do if you are a victim of a cyberbully)
  • An online quiz that reviews vocabulary
  • Complete a puzzle in Google slides. Students will need to make a copy of the slides before completing the puzzle.

⇒ This breakout reviews the same content that is in my Cyberbullying PowerPoint and Activities. If you do not own it, you can still use this breakout, just make sure you have reviewed the same information.

  • What is a cyberbully, the difference between a cyberbully and a regular bully and what to do in different cyberbullying situations.
  • Vocabulary reviewed: bully, empathize, upstander, bystander, rumor, humiliate, target

VERY IMPORTANT: PLEASE CHECK YOUR DISTRICT'S FILTER. Students will need access to Google Sites and jigsawplanet.com to complete the activity. Sometimes a school or district will block Google Sites. Even if Google Sites works on your staff account, it is possible that student accounts are blocked. Please verify this before purchasing. ALL firewall issues that occur are on your end in your school/district restrictions. I cannot troubleshoot. Please contact me if you have any questions.

A G Suite account was used to create the breakout, not a personal Google account.

F.A.Q. about digital breakouts:

Q: Do my students need a Google account to use this breakout?

A: Many of the breakouts do have a Google Slides activity to complete. Students will need to make a copy of the slide. If your students do not have their own accounts, you can create a shared account for your class.

Q: How do I know if Google Sites is blocked at my school?

A: Download my free Google Breakout. You can see if Google Sites will work and introduce digital breakouts to your students so they can get used to the format.

Important Note: This is not an editable resource.
