Description

Do your students need extra practice cutting and using scissors? In Kindergarten, I spend quite a bit of time focusing on scissors skills, especially at the beginning of the school year. Students need multiple opportunities to practice cutting in order to strengthen their fine motor development and gain confidence using scissors. With this packet, your students will be able to practice cutting a wide variety of shapes and lines in numerous sizes. The pages in this packet are perfect for setting up a fine motor/scissors center in your classroom, or for providing whole or small group practice with this skill.

In this packet, you will receive the following:

*8 different large shapes for cutting (each shape has a different graphic to color; total of 16 different graphics; 2 shapes to a page)

*8 different small shapes for cutting (6 shapes to a page)

*4 large sheets of lines for cutting (varied styles; curved, straight, diagonal, corners; 2 sets to a page)

*5 smaller sheets of lines for cutting (varied styles; four sets to a page)

The shapes included are: square, circle, triangle, rectangle, hexagon, diamond, heart, star.

Directions for implementation:

After printing, cut the sheets on the dividing lines provided. The large shapes and large lines pages will be cut in half, the pages of small shapes will be cut to create six individual shapes for cutting, and the smaller sheets of lines will be cut in fourths. Provide these sheets to your students with scissors. Students can use the scissors icon on each page as placement for their scissors to begin cutting. This works best for right-handedness. You can add a variety of these pages to a basket along with scissors to create a “Scissors Center” in your classroom! This is very engaging and meaningful fine motor practice for little learners!
