What educators are saying

This was my first time having curriculum night at my school. This resource really helped my plan for the evening!
I loved this idea and my students were so excited to have their parents guess where they sit in class. Unfortunately, parent participation was slim and many missed out on this great opportunity for their kids to feel that their parents were proud of them.

Description

Use these documents for your back-to-school night or open house for parents! Your students will love preparing these writing activities for their guardians to read and enjoy upon arrival.

WHAT'S INSIDE?

  • "Guess Who Sits Here" student worksheet
  • Student letter to parent(s) template
  • Blank "Note for You" for parents to write to students
  • Sign-in sheet
  • Activity instructions

HOW CAN I USE IT?

Parent nights can be awkward! I love having something for parents to do upon arrival into my classroom instead of just sitting there at an empty desk waiting for me to start my curriculum night presentation.

Here's how it works in my room:

  • The students prepare the "Guess Who" and letter the day of parent night. (Hopefully they go home and remind their parents to attend!)
  • "Guess Who Sits Here" is on the students' desks, covering their nametags. (I promise parents that I won't tell if they cheat - ha!)
  • Underneath, parents will find a letter that their student wrote about what they need to know about our classroom.
  • After reading the students' work, and whatever else we leave out (writing notebook, etc.), parents write a note to their student. They leave it on (or hide it in) the desk to be found the next morning.

You can, of course, use these resources however you'd like. I've found this routine to be loved and appreciated by students and parents alike!
