Current Event Analysis & Report

Current event analysis should be an important part of any social studies classroom. Far too many students leave high school completely unaware of the significant events happening around the world. As teachers, one of our primary responsibilities should be to encourage students to become positive contributors to the global community. It is impossible to be successful at this if kids leave our classrooms with no knowledge of the current issues that plague the world in which they live.

This product uses an in-depth approach to current events, so it works best at the high school level. It could also be used at the middle school level, but will likely require more teacher involvement and guidance (depending on the ability level of your students). The assignment involves a good deal of research on the current event topic, so access to online resources is essential. The amount of time you give students to complete this assignment will be determined by how much class time you devote to it and by how independent your students can be in their learning. The teaching notes include a suggested timeline based on an average group of high school learners.
