Culinary Knife Skills UNIT BUNDLE

This unit helps you to teach and your students to practice the art of knife skills. This bundle contains all you need for the mini unit of 3-5 days, depending on your preferred time frame. You may also pick and choose different elements from the bundle to make the unit your own. All documents will include a PDF and Word version so you can edit as you need to but have the convenience of fixed formatting if desired! This unit can be used in the classroom or in a hybrid or distance model if needed.

This product contains:

1. Guiding Powerpoint describing each knife cut, including dimensions and photos. An introductory video is also included. I focus on "phase 1' (cutting an onion) and "phase 2" (most other vegetables/traditional knife cuts) so the lesson can be segmented to accommodate different schedules accordingly if desired. Includes lab instructions to display on the board if desired.
2. A notes sheet (and key) for students to organize Powerpoint information.
3. A technique mat for students to use to guide the size and shape of their cuts during practice. I laminate these for classroom use so they are reusable and can be wiped clean!
4. A worksheet (and key) that reviews measurement techniques and also includes a recipe to make playdough to practice knife skills before moving on to regular vegetables to prevent waste. This is the lesson that I use prior to the knife skills unit! The playdough is easy, inexpensive, and can be stored for later use as needed. For reference, after this practice, I have students try out their skills on carrots, peppers, and cucumbers and prepare a crudité to enjoy!
