Description

These “Cricket in Times Square” literature activities are designed to make using the book easy for you and fun for the kids! These activities are great to use for daily reading/writing classwork, homework, extensions to the book, group assignments, or just for fun reading/writing lessons that align to Common Core Standards! This is meant to be a PRINT/ASSIGN and GO activity, with little to no prep on your part required! The answer key for chapter activities are at the end of this packet for your convenience. In addition to the chapter activities, I have included my popular comprehension questions with an answer key. There are five questions per chapter. There is also a compare/contrast worksheet for your kiddos to fill out while watching the movie. I have also included extension activities/projects, which align to the arts (visual art, poetry, theater, music, and technology). Three resources are all combined into this one PDF resource, so make sure to check out the entire download to see what will work best for your particular students!

Below are the common core standards addressed for each chapter activity:

Chapter 1: W.4.1 – Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information.

Chapter 2: RI.4.1 – Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.

Chapter 3: RI.4.2 - Determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details; summarize the text.

Chapter 4: W.4.6 - With some guidance and support from adults, use technology.

W.4.7 - Conduct short research projects that build knowledge through investigation of different aspects of a topic.

Chapter 5: W.4.3 - Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.

Chapter 6: RI.4.1 – Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.

Chapter 7: W.4.1 – Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information.

Chapter 8: W.4.3 - Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.

Chapter 9: RI.4.2 - Determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details; summarize the text.

Chapter 10: RL.4.2 – Determine the theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text; summarize the text.

Chapter 11: W.4.1 – Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information.

Chapter 12: RL.4.3 - Describe in depth a character, setting, or event in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text (e.g., a character’s thoughts, words, or actions).

Chapter 13: SL.4.4 - Report on a topic or text, tell a story, or recount an experience in an organized manner, using appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details to support main ideas or themes; speak clearly at an understandable pace.

Chapter 14: W.4.1 – Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information.

Chapter 15: RL.4.2 – Determine the theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text; summarize the text.

RF.4.4 - Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension.

RF.4.4a - Read grade-level text with purpose and understanding.
