Description
This handout is great for starting research or an "investigation" on whether or not a creature actually exists.
For opinion writing I always do a unit on creatures people think could be real such as mermaids, bigfoot, the lochness monster, aliens, and so on. This really engages the students and they are really interested in the research and writing.
For this handout I have them put on their "investigators cap" and fill out their official I.D card and tell them at their investigation is confidential. They can research about their creature and write down evidence on whether or not it supports it is real. This helps them come up with reasons for and against their opinion.
