Description

Have your students up and moving as they count the room with this Halloween counting and number activity. Learning to recognize numbers and how they go into a tens frame is so much more fun when you can move around the room, and that's where Halloween count the room comes in. Students scoot from one card to the next, figuring out what the number is and filling in their tens frame or counting the objects on the card and writing the number on their recording sheet.

Whether you call it count the room, scoot, or roam the room, having your students moving while they are learning seems to make the learning more fun and engaging for your kiddos.

This set gives you two different Halloween themed number activities for numbers 1-20 (easily differentiated to just use numbers 1-10).

  • Set one has cards with Halloween Characters to count (1-20) and two corresponding recording sheets (plus differentiated options). Place cards around the room (I recommend keeping them at a level students can reach so they can one-to-one count if needed), students go from card to card counting the characters and recording the number on the worksheet.

  • Set two has numbers 1-20 written on the cards and two recording sheets (with differentiated options). Place cards around the room. Students scoot from one card to the next writing the number on their worksheet and/or coloring the tens frame to show the number.

Note: there are some variations in the worksheets to aid the level your students may be working at.

  • Set one, there are worksheets for numbers 1-10 and 1-20 and both styles come with just the alphabet and with the characters to aid identification.
  • Set two, you have numbers 1-10 and 11-20, and an additional 11-20 which has the first 10 on the 10’s frame filled in.

The cards can also be used for number order, number matching (match the number card to the counting card), and before and after activities.
