What educators are saying

I love this product and my students found it to be very engaging! I love all of the ideas you provided!
I was so excited to find this. My school has just started using counting collections. This resource has saved me so much time in creating the items in it. The recording sheets are easy to use and the organizational materials are easy to prep.

Description

Counting collections is a great way to help build cardinality, one-to-one correspondence, rote counting, and more. It gives a wonderful stepping stone when you're ready to build upon their counting skills and move to addition, subtraction, decomposing, composing, and other mathematical skills.

What is Counting Collections?

Counting Collections provides opportunities for students to count a collection of objects in a structured way. The students choose how they want to count the collection. This can mean counting by 1’s, grouping the objects, or skip counting. After they have grouped and counted the objects, students record how they counted. The teacher usually begins Counting Collections in whole group with a minilesson. After, the teacher provides a time for students to count a collection.

Count to 100 by ones and by tens.
Count forward beginning from a given number within the known sequence (instead of having to begin at 1).
Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects).
Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities; connect counting to cardinality.
When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object.
