Cost of College Project

The purpose of this project is for my ninth grade students to start thinking about what it will cost them to attend college for four years when they graduate from high school. The project will hopefully show them how important their grades are in high school and how good grades can help them to get scholarships to attend the school.

I developed and used this project in a ninth grade Honors Algebra I class, but this can be used in any course at any level. The project itself does not have any complicated math beyond addition, subtraction and multiplication so don’t let the fact that I did it in an Honors Algebra I class scare you.

Every time I think about not doing the project because of the simple math, I always have seniors come back to me and tell me how much they enjoyed the project and were so thankful that I had asked them to do it because it really made them realize how expensive school what going to be.
