Description
Are you looking for elementary social language materials that focus on conversation reciprocity skills AND also contain a social story, activities, rubric and editable components? Do you have students that monopolize conversations by always talking about their own interests and never giving their peers a chance to talk? Are their conversations one-sided and more like monologues than dialogues? Then, try this packet of activities designed to help clients or students improve their self-awareness of their own conversational skills, build their conversational skills for low and high-interest topics, improve conversational reciprocity, ask questions and make comments to maintain a conversation and learn to maintain more of a '50/50' style of conversation. The teaching story can be read to your non-readers but the majority of the packet is for readers. You can display the teaching story on your smart board, laptop or I pad too!

I have used this activity with elementary school children with Aspergers and ADHD. They find it easier to improve their own conversational skills by analyzing a social script of a conversation where someone interrupts and does not involve the other person in the conversation. The activities help students improve their own self-awareness and self-monitoring skills, which are integral in making improvements in their conversational skills. The activities give them practice and improve reciprocity during low interest and high-interest conversations. Thanks for checking these activities out.
