Description

Included in this pack are 30 unique 'conversation cards'. Each card has 3 questions on it, so, that means 90 unique questions to spark kid-friendly conversations between students in your class! I print each card on a different sheet of colored card stock, cut, and then laminate. These are guaranteed to get even the most quiet children talking and sharing with their peers.

I like to assign weekly “Recess Buddies” to help develop friendships in the classroom and foster a caring playtime environment. Before students play at recess, they enjoy a short walk with an assigned buddy. Because it can be difficult for young children to hold a conversation, especially with an unfamiliar peer, these cards are the perfect addition to their walk!

Partners are handed a card with 3 questions on it. They are to discuss these questions during their walk, practicing listening to one another and responding appropriately. They should then check up on each other to make sure both buddies have plans for Recess. When they are done with their walk, they come to me and report back what their partner is up to and hand back their card!

This is a great opportunity for you to gain valuable insights into your students’ adventures on the playground. It’s also a chance to help a student struggling to make friends. Their recess buddy is in charge of making sure they feel included and cared for that week. “Recess Buddies” helps foster an amazing community in my class; students really care about making sure each peer is looked after. I can’t recommend it more!

Of course, you can use these cards for anything you'd like which is why I made sure to include a version of the cards without any recess buddy cue on it. These can be used in any scenario, whether in the classroom or in a guidance counselor's office, to spark conversations among students. :-) I'd love to hear what you end up using them for!
