    Description

This context clues bundle has everything you need to keep your upper elementary students engaged as you teach them how to use context clues to construct the meaning of words and phrases, including figurative language. The activities in this bundle make learning how to use context clues fun and easy! Students love the activities while teachers love the convenience of these no-prep resources that can be used year after year! I created these resources to address CCSS RL.5.4 and RI 5.4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative language such as metaphors and similes.

I created these resources after a friend asked me if I had any materials that would address RL and RI 5.4. When I first glanced at the standard, I immediately thought of the context clues, inference, and figurative language bundles I already have listed in my store. However, when I l studied the standard a bit more closely, and read through her district's assessment for this standard, I realized that none of my previously-created materials proved to be a good match for teaching this standard. As a result, I decided to create these resources in a way that I felt would best match the standards.

One more note... I created these with the fifth grade standards in mind, but I know that 4th grade and 6th grade have nearly identical standards. I believe these materials could be used as a strong base to teach CCSS RL.4.4 and RI 4.4 as well as CCSS RL.6.4 and RI 6.4. (Fourth and sixth grade teachers may need to add a few pieces to address allusions to Greek mythology (4th grade) and connotations (6th grade).

Here's what teachers like you have to say about using these context clues activities with their students:

⭐️ Kathryn F. said, "I love all of your products and this one is no exception! I used it with all three grades 4-6. I love that everything is easy to prep. You make my life so much easier."

⭐️ Charlena P. said, "Some of my students have such a hard time with context clues, but this helped them practice and grow stronger with the standard."

⭐️ Catherine S. said, "This was a great resource with many activities. I used almost all of them! Very well laid out, accurate, and attractive. My 5th graders loved it too."
