Are you ready to meet the federal mandate to teach your students about the U.S. Constitution on Constitution Day on September 17th? Everything you need to teach your primary grade(K-3) students about Constitution Day is right here, ready to use and no prep! The animated PowerPoint lesson explains the history of Constitution Day in kid-friendly language. At the end of the PowerPoint, there is a link to view the Schoolhouse Rock Constitution Preamble video online at WatchKnowLearn.org. Two different worksheets are included to use as a follow-up activity. A detailed lesson plan provides learning goals and suggested lesson procedure.

This resource includes the following:
*21-page PowerPoint presentation that provides a simple overview of the purpose of the U.S. Constitution and its history that is suitable for students in kindergarten, grade one, and grade two
*a link to the Schoolhouse Rock Constitution Preamble video on the WatchKnowLearn.org website (on last page of PowerPoint)
*choice of two different worksheets to use as a follow-up activity
*a detailed lesson plan.

According to Federal Public Law 108-447, all federally-funded schools must teach its students about the U.S. Constitution in some form on Constitution Day, from kindergarten through college.

Materials for this lesson include a PowerPoint and a PDF file with the lesson plan and worksheets condensed into a "zip" file that can be opened when downloaded onto a computer.
