Description

In this lesson students will learn how sequences of geometric transformations can make similar and congruent figures. The lesson includes 9 problems over 13 slides in Google Slides. The skills covered in this lesson are:

  • Identify a sequence of transformations that would change the preimage into the image
  • Perform a sequence of transformations from a given preimage
  • Understand that a sequence of transformations can result in congruent and similar figures
  • Problem solving using the skills above

Also included with this lesson is a full length Youtube video of this lesson being taught. The video is great for:

  • students that are absent
  • to show if you need a sub for a day
  • students that need to study for a test
  • to show parents what is being taught in class

You also get a skill check or homework worksheet that can be used as for the lesson. The questions are based of the lesson and range from easy to challenging questions.

Finally, you also get answer keys and worked out solutions to both the lesson and the skill check.

Verify experimentally the properties of rotations, reflections, and translations:
Understand that a two-dimensional figure is congruent to another if the second can be obtained from the first by a sequence of rotations, reflections, and translations; given two congruent figures, describe a sequence that exhibits the congruence between them.
Describe the effect of dilations, translations, rotations, and reflections on two-dimensional figures using coordinates.
Understand that a two-dimensional figure is similar to another if the second can be obtained from the first by a sequence of rotations, reflections, translations, and dilations; given two similar two-dimensional figures, describe a sequence that exhibits the similarity between them.
