What educators are saying

Great Unit! I love that I can use it multiple times with different books and explicitly teach and reteach specific concepts about print.
I love this resource for the beginning of the year in K! They are easy to follow and meet my little learners where they are. So great for new teachers like me or someone who needs ideas for concepts of print early in the year.

Description

Little Readers & Thinkers: Concepts of Print is a complete unit plan specifically for pre-readers and early readers. If you're wondering how to start reading instruction in your Kindergarten classroom, THIS IS IT!

Concepts of print refers to the understanding of how print and books work. These skills are a critical prerequisite to teaching children to read. Kindergarten reading instruction sometimes begins with the assumption that students have an understanding of most concepts of print. Unfortunately, students who come to school without these skills can fall behind right away if the direct instruction and modeling of these important skills is overlooked. The purpose of this unit is to supply you with the tools needed to build a strong foundation in concepts of print with all students in your classroom.

This easy to use unit plan features 14 days of systematic, explicit instruction with lesson plans scripted in teacher language.

The lessons can be taught in either a whole group or small group format.
