What educators are saying

I had students pair up and one would compose a rhythm, both would clap the rhythm, and then the other student would play on an unpitched instrument. They had such fun composing and playing!
This resource is amazing, I always try to include such resources in the things I create for my students.

This composition project can be as small or as big as you'd like. Use it per student, or in centers or as a group.

The following rhythms are used:

  • quarter note - quarter note
  • quarter note - quarter rest
  • eighth eighth - quarter rest
  • eighth eighth - quarter note

Within the above rhythms, there are 8 "lyrics" per rhythm (acorn, pumpkin, fall, etc.)

The lyrics are listed on a page by themselves, through a PPT file, or as cards where you can cut them out (4 per page makes for small but legible fun).

Once the composition is complete, have fun with your students performing their pieces!

Printing Suggestions:

If you do not have a borderless printer, I highly recommend scaling your print size to "shrink to fit," "fit to image," etc. This can be done directly through your print settings window. If this step is skipped, you potentially risk part of the file being cut off. This all depends on your printer's default print settings.

If printing a photo or one of the color options, always use the best quality settings. ☺️
