Description

This product was created to help teachers compose Communication of Learning (COL) report card comments for Junior and Senior Kindergarten classes in Ontario. The comments were created based on the most recent Kindergarten Curriculum document, which was implemented in September 2016. The comments can be applied to both Initial Observations reports (released to parents in the fall) and Kindergarten Communication of Learning reports (issued at the end of the second and third reporting periods).

As of December 22, 2021, this product now includes over 30 BRAND NEW report card comments suitable for virtual / remote / online / distance learning Kindergarten classes.

As of January 21, 2023, this product now includes over 20 revised/new DL&MB comments to reflect changes in reading instruction (i.e., comments have been edited or added to reflect Structured Literacy / Science of Reading / SOR - based reading instruction).

Frames are divided into three categories: Key Learning, Growth in Learning, and Next Steps. These categories are outlined in the templates provided in Growing Success: The Kindergarten Addendum. Comments for all four frames are provided in this product: Belonging and Contributing, Self-Regulation and Well-Being, Developing Literacy and Mathematics Behaviours, and Problem Solving and Inquiry.

PLEASE NOTE that these comments are to be used as a skeleton for your report card comments. Final comments should include specific evidence of growth in learning for evaluation for your students. In other words, comments should be supported by your own observations of each student. As stated in Growing Success: The Kindergarten Addendum, “Evidence of growth in learning for evaluation is collected over time using pedagogical documentation. It is expected that multiple sources of evidence will be used in order to increase the reliability and validity of the evaluation of learning.”
