Description

These commas rules worksheets condense the most common instances that commas are used to 8 simple commas rules so students can confidently master and understand them one at a time, adding a new rule each day after mastery.

My students struggled knowing and using comma rules correctly every year (because commas are tricky!), and I knew something had to change. After noticing a huge deficit specifically in the understanding of when to use commas and where to place them correctly, I got to work to create this step-by-step way of introducing commas rules in way that allows students to master one rule before adding another. It gives them practical ways to practice using commas correctly by editing sentences, placing both the appropriate commas and writing the correct comma rule number.

This resource includes:

• A poster/handout of the comma rules with examples

• A set of 8 worksheets introducing a new comma rule each time. The newest worksheet will require knowledge and use of previously introduced rules.

• 60 practice sentences to be used once all rules are taught (worksheet)

• 60 task cards (same sentences as worksheet)

• 2 DIY sentences pages where students write their own sentences given the rules numbers to include. One pages is easier (on rule per sentence) while the other is more challenging (2-3 rules per sentence).

• 1 "Be the Teacher" worksheet for students to correct an already "completed" page with a few hidden errors.

• 1 full paragraph story assessment to edit

• Answer Keys for all material
