Description
Guiding your primary students through a close read story passage is an activity that uses multiple reading standards all in one. These easy close read stories were written with a phonics focus, intended to be accessible to all readers, while practicing many reading comprehension skills at the same time. There are a mixture of fiction and non-fiction topics to keep your students interested!
With this SINGLE activity, your students will practice:
- reading and identifying sight words
- reading and identifying a phonics focus sounds
- reading grade level text with expression and accuracy
- analyzing text
- citing evidence
- reading comprehension
- sentence writing
- inferences, predictions & story extensions
- independent phonics review
- Teacher Tip- I LOVE doing this activity for an observation or evaluation. It always hits all the right marks, and the kids are always super engaged!
About the Activity:
The front side of the worksheet includes a phonics focused story written for little readers. There are three comprehension questions beneath it that will ask the students to analyze the text and cite their evidence. Some questions are simple, some more advanced- such as "agree or disagree" questions! On the back side, there will be one extension question (such as a prediction or inference) and independent phonics review. When students are working on the back, you can pull small groups or assist those who needed more help on the front! Click on the PREVIEW to see more!
