Description
This set of resources sets students up to debate the main catalyst of the US Civil War: 1) Constitutional Compromises, 2) Westward Expansion, or 3) The Election of 1860. This activity has students break into four teams, one for each of these root causes, plus a jury.
The resource contains: a student packet to prepare for the debate and take notes, a debate guide for each team, a ballot for the jury members, and a list of debate best practices.
This resource can be modified to better fit the needs of your specific students and classroom!
