Description

What comes to mind when you think "Cinderella"?

Blond hair? Glass slipper? Pumpkin?

Expand your students' thinking with this unit that takes a deeper look at this timeless tale as it is told around the world. Students will use picture books to explore the stories and illustrations of cultures world wide.

This resource offers the flexibility to work with any Cinderella tales you choose!

• STORY ELEMENTS & ILLUSTRATIONS •

This unit has an equal emphasis on story elements and illustrations. Students will study the story itself by responding to text using graphic organizers and written responses. Students will also analyze the illustrations that bring each tale to life, read about the art history of three different cultures, and have an opportunity to explore those elements by creating their own art.

• MIRROR vs WINDOW •

Students will also be asked to consider if the story they are reading offers a mirror (where they see themselves) or window (where they are watching another person's experience) viewpoint. Students will have an opportunity to explore physical traits, character traits, and situations.

• FRACTURED FAIRY TALES •

Also included is a fractured fairy tale element. Students will learn about components of fractured fairy tales, compare classic tales to fractured tales, and even write their own!
