The best part? These activities allow students to talk about the upcoming holidays, while still learning as winter break quickly approaches.

In my classroom…

  • 1. Plane Ticket: Before the lesson, I pass out the plane tickets and students take a few minutes to fill them out. These make super cute keepsakes.
  • 2.KWL Chart: Initially, students take about 5 minutes to complete the KWL chart, setting the stage for the lesson.
  • 3.Graphic Organizer: Students are given the graphic organizers and they fill them out during the duration of the lesson.
  • 4. Flip Book: As a whole class, students assemble the flip book that they will reference throughout the lesson.
  • 5. PowerPoint: Immediately following, I show students the PowerPoint presentation. It encourages student interaction, questions, and comments.
  • 6. Poster Display: I then read over the poster and display it in our classroom, so students can easily refer to it for visual support.
  • 7. Word Cards: The picture/ word cards are placed in the writing center and on the board for students to reference.
  • 8. Brochure Explanation: I give students instructions for a brochure activity. While students independently work on their brochures, I read the mini reader with my small groups.
  • 9. Reading Comprehension: I read the reading comprehension sheet aloud to the class. Then, they independently answer the questions.
  • 10. All About Worksheet: This can be filled out independently and works great for early finishers
  • 11.Collaborative Learning: Students work with partners to complete fill-in-the-blank sheets, utilizing the flip book as a reference.
  • 12. Word Search: Students work on completing the word search as an early finisher activity. (This would also be great when there’s a few extra minutes at the end of the day.)
  • 13. Morning Work: Students use the writing prompts, writing sheets, and postcards at the start of the day.
  • 14. Snapshot Page: To end the lesson, students complete the snapshot page. This is a good tool to see how much they learned and also makes a great keepsake.

PLEASE NOTE: This is not all completed in one day. It typically takes a week to finish all of the activities. This is just a guide that I have put together based off of what I have found works with my students. These activities could be completed in a different order.
