This special edition of my popular Dramatic Play line includes everything you need to set up a beautiful Christmas Gift Shop Dramatic Play space in your home or classroom!

Pretend play is about more than simply having fun and playing games—children get a lot of arithmetic practice while having fun with gifts, from counting to establishing prices and making “change” at the cash register! Further advantages for children of all ages include:

  • Development of oral language skills
  • Content-specific vocabulary development
  • Creative thinking
  • Problem-solving
  • Fine motor skills
  • Development of early reading and writing understanding

I’ve included 2 different stations which you can set up one at a time or all at once depending on the ages of your little learners! You’ll find the following Christmas-themed stations included:

  1. Wrapping Station
  2. Card Station

Not only will your little learners LOVE playing and creating in each of the stations, but your little learners will also develop early reading and writing skills and begin to recognize familiar Christmas words and vocabulary!

TIPS!

Go through the printable set and print out the pages that will be most useful for the kid. You can get many of the materials from and around your home and at local stores. You might like to collect the following props and resources for your Christmas Gift Shop.

For the “Gifts” in our Gift Shop, I used a blocks box, puzzle box, Play-Doh set box, Lego set boxes, stuffed animals, artificial flowers, toy vehicles, toy pieces of jewelry, story books, some sweet boxes, a few brand new T-shirt, etc:

Our Wrapping station had scissors and some gift tags. We also had tape ribbons/Bows. Also wrapping paper pieces including stamped gift wraps made on your own (see instructions inside), Fabric, and some empty boxes and bags made on your own (see instructions inside). These can be recycled from gifts that children give you at Christmas time. You can use scraps of wrapping paper left over from gift wrapping. You could also buy gift wraps from dollar stores.

Our cash register is ready for a Gift shop worker to check out customers. Here’s where the math comes in! Your students will love using pretend money and a cash register to pay for their gift wrapping and gifts.

I also added toy catalogs for children to look through to make their shopping lists and customer order forms. The printable forms will add an extra literacy element to your wrapping station. Your little learners will begin to understand that print has meaning when they use these forms to place orders for gift wrapping.

We also use printable template Christmas cards and envelopes that children can write on and decorate. Your little learners will love addressing their very own holiday greeting cards. Also, you may purchase some cheap cards from the dollar shop. There are also printable holiday stamps in color or black and white on colored paper.
