Christmas Card Writing Activity

Get your students excited about writing this Christmas/winter season with these fun Christmas card writing templates.

Writing templates include:
- A pair of winter mittens
- A snowflake
- A Christmas present
- A gingerbread house
- A Christmas stocking

There are two versions of each template. The first version is an outline of the shape to be used as the cover page for a Christmas card or booklet. The second version includes an outline of the shape and blank lines for writing a short story. This resources was designed with the option of printing both versions 2-sided with the cover page on one side and the blank lines on the other side. If printing 2-sided, make sure to print this out at actual size or at 100% so that the shape on both sides of the paper match up when folded in half along the dotted lines.

Student will fold the paper in half, cut out the shape, and enjoy a fun Christmas card writing activity. Makes a great bulletin board display all Christmas/winter season long. Students can also add this activity to their interactive notebook.

**I used these writing templates with my 9th grade Spanish 1 classes to do a creative writing project. We first reviewed the five key elements that go into writing a short story: character, setting, conflict, plot, and theme. Next, I had my students write their own Christmas/winter themed short story (realistic or fiction) onto one of the five Christmas card writing templates.

The requirements for this creative writing project were to write at least 3 paragraphs in Spanish (with a beginning, middle, and end), include at least one main character, illustrate their story on the front cover, and give their story a title in Spanish. We spent 3 class periods working on this project, one day to introduce the project and begin writing a rough draft, one day to edit the rough draft and transfer the short story to a template, and the last day to illustrate, color, cut, and present/display the final product on the classroom bulletin board.**
