Description

Digital poetry activity students where can watch and read Amanda Gorman's poem, "Chorus of the Captains" that she recited at the 2021 Super Bowl. In this poem Gorman highlights three captains, or leaders that have gone above and beyond during the past year, and how these people have cared for others during the pandemic. Throughout this assignment students will reflect on Gorman's words and answer questions about the people Gorman celebrates as well as reflect on questions such as:

What does hope mean?

What does exceeding limitations and expectations mean?

Is there an educator in your life this past year that has made an impact?

Have you witnessed instances of hope this past year?

Who is a hero in your local community?

While analyzing Gormans words students will reflect on their own community and life. Students will also analyze the poem using the soapstone method while looking for intended audience, purpose, and overall message of the poem.
