Chinese New Year - Dragon Lantern - Art Lesson Plan

Here is an original project on the theme of the Chinese Dragon.
Students will draw a Chinese lantern, which could serve as a decoration to highlight Chinese New Year. This project uses simple materials like markers, with a touch of dry pastel.

You could also do more by using the message lanterns included in this document. You will find lanterns to colour, as well as information on the significance of the dragon, Chinese New Year, and Lantern Festival in this document. You could even display the information with your lanterns!

This is a complete project that is easy to understand and follow, with an Art Appreciation sheet included.


Level:

• Grades 3 and up
• Younger students could also do it by using the drawings of lanterns included in the document.
