Description
This activity set emphasizes writing compound names from given chemical formulas. The worksheets coincide with the bingo and squares games in this bundle.
BINGO:
This bundle contains 5 sets (of 30) CHeMIO (bingo) cards, call cards and answer keys! These CHeMIO cards can be used to help your students learn ionic compound nomenclature. This set contains binary type I ionic, binary type II ionic, binary covalent, polyatomic ion containing compounds and polyatomic ion names on the student cards and formulas on the call cards. There are 30 unique student cards in each set! You can print the student CHeMIO cards on regular paper or cardstock single-sided. Each page of CHeMIO cards contains two student cards and can be cut along the dotted line. Laminating is optional.
Call cards are provided for the instructor. The instructor draws a call card and calls out or writes the contents on the board. Answer keys are provided. One set is alphabetized by name and the other is alphabetized by formula. This can be printed and laminated (or placed in a sheet protector) and marked off by the instructor using a dry erase marker. This is great for subs that may not know the formulas and names!
CHeMIO card covers are provided in this resource. These are designed to be printed single-sided and cut out. The use of the covers is optional. If you laminate the student cards, students can use dry-erase markers to mark their spaces. Alternatively, other objects or markers can be used (for example, candies, pony beads, hole punched paper dots, etc.)

SQUARES:
These SP ThReEs (squares) cards can be used to help your students learn binary type I ionic, binary type II ionic, binary covalent, polyatomic ion containing compounds and polyatomic ion nomenclature. This set contains 5 resources and each one contains 4 gameboards. A total of 20 gameboards are included in this resource! You can print the SP ThReEs cards on regular paper or cardstock single-sided. The cards can be laminated or placed in a sheet protector and students can use different colored dry-erase markers. Laminating is optional. Alternatively, the sheet can be printed and students can use different colored pencils or pens.
How to play:
Give each group (2-4 students) an SP ThReEs (squares) card and 2 six-sided dice. Determine turn order by having each student roll a die. Highest number goes first and then proceeds clockwise. Students will take turns rolling both dice and finding the corresponding sum in the table on the left-hand side of the card. Find an answer in the game grid, confirm the correct answer with the other player(s) and color one line that surrounds the answer. The outside border has already been completed, so the game plays inside the border. Students should use different colored dry-erase markers, pens or colored pencils to mark their answer. If a student completes the last line to create a square, they should color in that square with their color or mark with their initials. If 2 squares are completed with the same line, that student gets to claim both squares by coloring them in. If the dice are rolled and a play cannot be completed, that student’s turn is over and the next player goes. The game ends when all squares have been completed. The student with the most squares wins. Have fun learning chemical nomenclature! :)
