Description

Characterization: What It Is and How to Develop It: A Google Slide Show is an interactive educational tool for middle school and high school perfect for teaching characterization in writing and reading. It covers various aspects of characterization such as definitions, physical and personality traits, direct and indirect characterization, round and flat characters, dynamic and static characters, and techniques for developing characterization. It also provides students with prompts in the form of 10 photos of interesting people to help them develop a character, or write a character description, or character study.

It includes the following:

  • Objectives, Learning Targets, and Standards
  • A detailed lesson plan with sample notetakers
  • Slides defining the concepts: characterization, direct characterization, indirect characterization, trait, physical trait, character trait, round character, flat character, dynamic character, and static character
  • STEAL: the five methods of indirect characterization (interactive slides)
  • 10 photos on five slides of real people (children and adults) doing different activities, expressing different emotions, in different settings, providing students opportunities to write and develop a round character using the techniques in the slides.
