Description

Can be used for distance learning. Are you covering the characteristics of life with your students? What makes something a cell? What role does DNA play in cells? Do cells need energy? Correlates to NGSS standards: HS-LS1-1 & MS-LS1-1

Students will get a chance to look at statements about viruses and determine if the characteristics of life apply to a virus or not and why.

This utilizes a Claim Evidence Reasoning model and is best as an extension activity after the characteristics of life have been reviewed.

>>>This is part of a larger bundle for Intro to Biology. Save 30%. Check it out HERE.<<<

Students will be provided 4 statements about viruses to evaluate and combine that information with what they have already been taught to make an informed decision on whether they think viruses are living or nonliving.

Includes:

  • teacher notes includes standards, explaining the resource, and question ideas to facilitate discussion
  • statements about viruses
  • statement evaluation sheet
  • CER sheet to develop their argument
  • Notes page over characteristics of life (partially completed and blank versions included)
  • Rubric to evaluate the quality of the argument. Can be used by teacher or students to both critique others and self-evaluation.
