Description
This is our school's (K4 - 5th) character education program in a nutshell. This was our school's 1st year doing anything character education related. We created a super hero by the name of Captain Character (body suit and all). He leads our character education assemblies and visits classrooms. He basically wants students to be flexible social thinkers in and out of school.
You will find monthly themes/traits/superpowers, books, video clips, announcements, messages, bulletin board ideas, etc. You will also find out we relate the Character Education program with our PBIS: Wildcat Way Expectations.
We also do weekly worksheets and short stories which are not included. The short stories we use are from the book called, "Character Building Day by Day" by Mather and Weldon. Each classroom reads the same social story (I make copies) that correlates with the theme of the month and discuss the questions at the end of each story.
Recommended Books:
Character Matters by Thomas Lickona
Life's Greatest Lessons by Hal Urban
What's Under Your Cape? by Barbara Gruener
What Do You Stand For? by Barbara Lewis
