Description

This Carnival of the Animals assessment pack includes three different types of assessments to use during and after teaching Carnival. Each assessment has several variations of the assessment, to allow you to assess the animals in the song that you are specifically working with at the time.
1. Carnival of the Animals Circle Color Assessments: 5 variation tests are included in this file. When assessing, I tell all my students to pick up a red crayon. I
then tell them to listen and circle the animal that matches what they hear with the red crayon. I repeat the process until all listening examples have been given.
2. Carnival of the Animals Number Assessments: 4 variations of this test are included. Each animal is pictured
beside the instruments that play the music for it’s
song. You will be playing six listening
examples. After hearing the first example, students
will write a one in the box beside the animal that
they think they hear. One the second one, they
will write a two in the box of the animal they hear. They will repeat this identification by number until all 6 animals are introduced.
3. Carnival of the Animals Puppet Manipulatives: There are cut out templates of puppets for each animal in the Carnival. Have students cut on the dotted line (or make these yourself or have a volunteer make them). Then, glue or tape a tongue
depressor or popsicle stick to the back of each puppet.
To review or assess, have the students lay their puppets out on the floor in front of you. When you play one of the pieces from the Carnival of the Animals, have them hold up the animal they think it is, so you can formally or informally assess them. You can also use a particular animal’s puppet for students to mirror you, following the contour of the song as they listen!
