What educators are saying

Loved this take on the Wife of Bath's tale. The original is too long and wordy for me to read with my reluctant seniors however, this spin kept them entertained and participating the entire story. Highly recommend.
This was a great activity. Really engaging for my students and allowed them the opportunity to analyze different aspects of the story. Very happy with this.

Description

"The Wife of Bath's Tale" from Canterbury Tales is so much easier and more enjoyable to teach with these resources! The story can be difficult for students to understand because of the Wife of Bath's numerous digressions, but these resources help them focus on what matters and help them strengthen their reading comprehension skills. Here's what's included:

Resources for The Wife of Bath's Prologue

  • Summary outline of the Prologue to the tale that sorts out the Wife of Bath's main points and puts them in more school-appropriate language. This handout can save reading time so students stay engaged and/or it can fill in the gaps of excerpted textbook editions.
  • Inference exercise: Students read 7 excerpts from the Prologue to the tale and identify which personality traits of the Wife of Bath they can infer from it. Then they explain in their own words how they made the inferences.

Resources for "The Wife of Bath's Tale"

  • Reading questions: 20 questions that help students track the plot and 2 extended thinking questions about the satirical nature of the story and how the tale suits the Wife of Bath.
  • Quiz: 8-question multiple-choice quiz on the plot
