What educators are saying

My drama class loves using reader's theater scripts to perform short plays. These were great options.
My students loved these holiday themed readers theater scripts. All I had to do was print and let the kids do the rest. Very easy to read and organize students.

CHRISTMAS READERS' THEATER FUN: RUDE ALF, THE RED-NOSED REINDEER
This fun Christmas Readers' Theater script will give students practice in reading, comprehension and writing, while having bags of fun. The script will prompt chuckles and seasonal merriment in grades 4-7 students. It requires them to do some reflection and writing afterwards, including giving peer and self feedback. They will have so much fun they won't realize that they are learning!
The script introduces them to the TRUE story of a much loved character. There was no such reindeer as Rudolph. He was called Rude Alf by his fellow reindeer because he was the rudest reindeer of them all. Students will discover the real story behind his famous nose, and why he had to lead the reindeer through the fog. Two seasonal activities - Christmas riddles and a seasonal word search - complete the entertainment.
    How to use this script
It can be used either in small groups, or perhaps even better, the whole class. The students who do not have individual character parts will read the words or sounds indicated by the character tag EVERYONE.

A lot of fake news surrounds the legend of Frosty the Snowman - including his name - and this amusing script will reveal the real deal. In a merry morality tale, students will learn how a cold-hearted snowman transformed thanks to the kindness of an elf child. This amusing script will give students practice in reading aloud, comprehension and writing, while having lots of fun.

'TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS READERS' THEATER MYSTERY

This humorous Christmas Readers' Theater mystery will give your Christmas-crazy grades 4-7 students practice in essential ELA skills, while having bags of fun being detectives. This seasonal script introduces your students to the TRUE (!) story behind a much loved 19th century poem. The family Christmas Eve shown by Clement Moore in 'Twas The Night Before Christmas was not really the peaceful one depicted in the poem. Nope! Thanks to the Mystery of Mama’s Missing Kerchief, everyone in the house was stirring, especially the mice. Mama is determined to find out who the thief is, but she needs the help of your students to solve the mystery. She won’t rest until she knows who the thief of her precious kerchief was- and that means no-one else in the house will either! The REAL story was not accurately narrated by Papa, so in this script it is told from the point of view of four narrators, with Papa as a main character. Santa and Rude Alf (known to many as Rudolph) play starring roles in the mystery, although Rude Alf's contributions are non-verbal and confined to noises such as honking and clicking his hooves.

Some short answer questions follow the script. A longer extension writing activity requires students to write an additional page or so of the script. Two fun seasonal activities (with answers) are included.
You might want to explain to the students that some liberties are taken with the historical time frame in the story! For example, kids Penny and Benny use the words of 21st century tweens and teens, rather than 19th century language.

    How to use this script

The script can be used either in small groups, or even for the whole class. Students who do not have an individual speaking part make the sounds indicated when the character tag SOUND EFFECTS appears. Perhaps explain to the students that the occasional words in parentheses are not meant to be read out loud, but are just advice about how the line should be read.

Coloring borders in the writing pages add to the fun!

    The poem

The full text of the poem is included. You might want to read it with the students before you embark on the script. One of the extension activities after reading the script is unscrambling the poem. Your students have to put the verses back into the correct order- without looking at the original, of course!
