This breakout room is a fun history learning adventure for your students. Based on the fantastical art mystery books by author Marianne Malone inspired by an art collection of miniature rooms. The Sixty-Eight Rooms is filled with mystery, magic and a dash of world history! This breakout introduces students to the famous Thorne Rooms, historically accurate American and European miniature rooms commissioned by Narcissa Thorne between 1932 and 1940 and crafted by master artisans according to her specifications.

Breakout: The Sixty-Eight Rooms the first lock and key escape room style challenge in a series of four based on the books by author Marianne Malone. Get ready for a fun escape-room style adventure with this break-out game designed to provide a challenging artful twist to world history! This resource combines puzzles, learning, ELA and art history! The adventure begins in the Art Institute of Chicago where the Thorne Rooms are on display. As art treasure hunters, your students will work together to solve 6 puzzles. Throughout the challenge they will learn about the Narcissa Thorne, the artist and The Thorne Rooms, learn a bit of world history and reveal the hidden magical objects that bring the past back to life and catch a thief! Are you ready to UNLOCK THE FUN?!?!

What Materials Will I Need? (Double items for two teams) - One Lockout Hasp -4 combination code locks, one should be a directional lock, one ABC lock - 2 key entry locks - One storage box that includes a place for the lockout hasp - All printed materials (included) - Manila envelopes (to store clues) - UV light and invisible ink pen, tape, scissors, Internet access
