Description

This activity accompanies William Bradford's "Of Plymouth Plantation" and could be used in any ELA class, grades 6-12. Students analyze Bradford's diction in reference to setting and character. This activity forces students to slow down their reading and focus on a writer's specific word choices and their impact on the work itself. This could be used as a formative assessment and does align with the Common Core State Standards: Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. For a preview, see a free version of the activity that accompanies Ray Bradbury's "The Pedestrian" in my store: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Bradburys-The-Pedestrian-A-Lesson-in-Diction-1275329
