Blood Typing with KEY

This is an assignnment created in Word that I use after our unit on blood cells. It's a fun assignment that also includes two interactive activities to complete. The answers to the questions come from within the assignnment itself, so the students can actually teach themselves blood typing (pretty cool). In order to give the students credit for completing the interactives, I require them to snip or screen shot the results of the games and paste the results at the end of the assignment for credit. OR, the student can simply show you the results on his/her computer for credit. ALERT: Sometimes interactive games only work with Flash download. ALSO, sometimes websites with interactives change their address or remove the game altogether. However, I keep the address in the document to remind me to continue searching for it because sometimes it shows up on another website. OR. . . , sometimes a website will reinstate the game, so hanging on to the address is beneficial.

This assignment is used on the computer with a drop box such as Blackboard, PowerSchool or School Space. However, it can be quickly and easily converted into a printable paper copy by simply removing the asterisks and adding lines for the students to write their answers instead of typing them. I use this format often so that we can save paper by using electronic copies of assignments.

The student answers the questions by placing the cursor between the red asterisks and begins typing the answer - that way they can easily see that they've answered the question and I can easily grade the assignment by reading what they've typed in red. The student's completed assignment should look very much like the included answer KEY (if completed correctly). I love technology!

This assignment can also be used when teaching a unit on blood spatter in forensics.
