These engaging, hands-on activities incorporate a cross-curricular approach to learning. Students sort 56 animal cards under the following biomes of the world heading cards: Desert, Mountains, Rainforest, Wetlands, Temperate Forest, Grasslands, and Polar Regions. There is a total of 8 animal cards for each biome category. Students use the picture clues, as well as the biome and continent icons presented on each animal card, to determine which biome the animals belong to. The continent icon colors correspond to the Montessori continent map of the world. Two differentiated recording sheets are provided for this sorting activity. An answer key is also provided. From there, students select 30 animal cards of their choice and complete two different graphing activities, “Animals From the Different Continents Bar Graph” and “Animals From the Different Biomes Bar Graph.” Using the data collected, students complete bar graph questions, provided on two differentiated levels. Answers to these bar graph activities will vary depending on the animal cards selected. Therefore, students can repeat these activities over and over again for endless opportunities of learning and fun!
