Description

In this super-powered resource, the superpower of ‘bilingualism’ is discussed using a non-fiction reading passage. Students read and learn about how being able to speak and understand multiple languages makes your brain stronger. The way bilinguals filter and process sound, noises, and words is discussed, unfolding in a way that shows how the brain of bilingual is different from others. Students will also read about how the brain of a bilingual learns language in both hemispheres of the brain and read how speaking multiple languages gives you a competitive edge. Through the scaffolded comprehension tasks and vocabulary activities, learners will interact with and connect to the topic in a way that personalizes the content and helps them build meaning.

This reading comprehension resource has a ton of benefits for getting your learners to become better readers. Here is a quick glimpse at what your students do in this lesson.

Your students…

  • …read about the power of a bilingual brain.
  • …work towards mastering new academic words by doing multiple vocabulary exercises.
  • …identify the meaning of new words by using context clues.
  • …synthesize information from the reading.
  • …analyze the text for specific information.
  • …write an opinion essay on bilingualism and show how they feel about it in education.
