What's the book about?

This is an eloquently written, poignant historical fiction novel with a strong female protagonist. Students really love this story and often want to read the companion novel, Salt to the Sea, right afterward. The novel centers on the relatively unknown mass deportation and genocide of people in the Baltic states of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia perpetrated by the Soviet Union during World War II.
