Behavioral Observation of Students in School (BOSS) Template, Self-Calculating

This Excel form is closely aligned with the Behavioral Observation of Students in School (BOSS) assessment (Shapiro, 2013) and allows the user to record student on-task and off-task behavior in a systematic way. It uses an interval-based recording system; this particular sheet uses 75 intervals (20 seconds each, typically) for a total of 25 minutes. There is also a section provided for anecdotal comments that might help elaborate on any observed behaviors.An example of the filled form is also provided, just so you can see what the scoring will look like once finished.

The percentage of on-task and off-task behavior is automatically recorded at the end of the observation period. Operational definitions are included and can be modified as needed. I highly recommend using an interval timing app (Interval Timer is my personal favorite!) with this form to make sure the interval recording is done properly.
