Because of Winn-Dixie Modified Novel Unit for Special Education

Teach special education and don't have the appropriate curriculum to teach students with mild/mod or MOD disabilities??? This unit is for YOU!!

I divided the novel into 6 weeks (chapters). Then, at the end of the unit we watch the film and have a huge party to celebrate!!!

You will need to purchase the Because of Winn-Dixie Modified Novel from another TPT seller:

-Level 1-2: Adapted Literacy (linked here) text only with 1 visual icon.

I used this novel and modified worksheets for two levels.

Here is what's included in this bundle:

-1 modified vocabulary words presentations (includes 5 vocabulary words for every chapter).

-1 set of Vocabulary worksheets for level 1-2 (Definition notes, three times each, synonyms, sentences, and test). Level 1-2 contains 5 vocabulary words.

-1 sets of comprehension tests (level 1 or level 2). This resource contains 3 visual options.

-Character visuals

-Comprehension Skill for each chapter (use the same resource for level 1 and level 2).

Here's how I print the worksheets and create a spiral book (once you make your book, you are set for 6 weeks).

Print a version of the modified novel for each student.

Next, create the workbook for students.

Print and set up:

Mon: Vocabulary definition notes (use Google Slides vocabulary presentation) and read a chapter.

Tue: Write Vocabulary Words Three Times Each, (introduce comprehension skill).

Wed: Vocabulary Synonyms + Comprehension skill Worksheet

Th: Vocabulary Sentences + (add a story map as review-characters, setting, etc). For level 2 you can print any comprehension skill graphic organizer (compare and contrast, sequencing, main idea, summarizing, etc, and add it to the workbook.)

Fri: Vocabulary Test and Comprehension Test
